The Power of Embodiment & Choosing Your Path | Trauma-Informed Somatic Coaching

There are certain times of the year that feel deeply transformational - moments when we take quantum leaps forward in our personal growth, business, or self-awareness. These are often significant times in our lives, whether they mark personal milestones, shifts in identity, or even moments of loss and challenge.

Our bodies hold all our experiences. Every emotion, every event, every change we’ve been through is recorded in our being. Our body becomes our biography. Because we are alive, breathing, organic beings, we are part of a magnificent consciousness - the energy of the planet, the universe, and the source, or however we define it yourself.

Thriving in Uncertain Times: Soul, Work and Leadership

I’ve been reflecting deeply on what it means to navigate the chaos of the current world while staying connected to our growth, purpose, and leadership. This topic has been coming up not only in my own journaling and daily somatic check-ins but also in conversations with other practitioners in my programmes and those striving to make a positive impact in the world.

The truth is the world feels incredibly chaotic right now. From political upheavals and the rise of far-right ideologies to economic crises and societal shifts, there is so much happening all around us. For those of us who are sensitive, empathic, or values-driven, witnessing these changes can feel overwhelming, leading to burnout, anxiety, depression, and even hopelessness. We might question if we have any power to impact what’s happening in the world or whether our efforts truly matter.

Today, I want to share an invitation to approach these challenging times from a different perspective. What if we viewed the chaos around us as an invitation to plant seeds of transformation? What if we began this transformation with ourselves?

The fear of visibility is a topic that comes up again and again in my conversations with other practitioners, especially heart-centred female practitioners.

Why is it so hard to change?

Why is it so hard to change?

Over the past 30 years I’ve done a lot of different training and certifications. I learned new knowledge from all of them but only a few of them felt deeply transformative.

What made those few training courses so transformative?

It was the mixture of knowledge, practice and time for integration with personal support from the trainer and the community.

Honouring your own rhythm and natural cycles as a woman

Honouring your own rhythm and natural cycles as a woman

I know this time of the year can be very challenging for many of us. I've been having many conversations with other female practitioners who are feeling overwhelmed and stretched out right now.

Many of them said to me that they felt really focused and enthusiastic at the beginning of January but now feel exhausted and unmotivated.

So if you are feeling like this - please remember that we are in the middle of Winter. I know it can feel like Spring is here already but our bodies know better. They are much more in tune with Nature's rhythm than our minds and expectations.

How are you with honouring your own rhythm and natural cycles - especially in your work and business?

Why I don’t want to work 'relentlessly’ as a Somatic Coach

As I look to 2024 and how I want to continue my work I know that certain things need to change in order for me stay healthy and well. My calendar is already full and my year (and half of 2025) is already planned out. As a recovering workaholic I need to be mindful that I don’t jump in and become blind to what my body and my nervous system are showing me.

I’m also aware that my body has been asking for a slower pace and more space and the word that came up for me for 2024 is: Spaciousness.

So when I opened one of the emails in my inbox about how to create a thriving business and the first thing written was about: ‘showing up relentlessly’ I felt a strong body reaction.

I know from experience that our words and the language we use have deep meaning. I also know that my body clearly shows me how I feel about things. So I took some time to pause and listen within to understand this strong somatic reaction.

Here is what I learned as I listened within…

Definition of Somatics and Embodiment

Definition of Somatics and Embodiment

I saw a great post in one of the yoga teachers groups asking about the definition of ‘somatic’ and how it is different from other/previous styles of teaching.

I thought it was a great question! And something that needs to be explored.

The word ‘somatic’ is being used more and more, and in so many different contexts. There are so many courses popping up all over the internet using the word ‘somatic’ in the title: Somatic Coaching, Somatic Breathwork, Somatic Yoga, Somatic Dreamwork… It’s important that we understand what these words mean.

So here are some of my reflections on the subject…
